New Baby Blanket Pattern

Creativity - Knitting - Heart Love
Here it is, photos and the pattern for my latest baby blanket, a bright, cheery checkerboard with pretty little butterflies on it. I thought that it would a nice addition to any little girl's nursery.

UPDATE 2/24/12: Some of you have commented about errors in the pattern. I have updated this post with all the corrections that I have found. I apologize for any inconvience and stress these errors may have caused.

PLEASE BE AWARE - that if you comment on this post and do not have a Live Journal account, I will have NO WAY of getting back to you with an answer unless you leave your email address.

Also, as of today I will not be maintainting this pattern on Live Journal. I have moved it to my new and active site Celtic Knits. You can find the pattern here. Any future changes, corrections or updates will be made on that site and not this one.

Dear Ciarri
As my granddaughter's room has a butterfly theme I was very excited to find your flutterby blanket pattern. I am however having difficulty following the pattern.
The SSK abbreviation according to my knowledge means slip 1 slip 1 knit the 2 slipped st tog? However when I do this on the 1st pattern row, I end up with 2st too many ie 18 st i.s.o 16st remaining after 2nd (YO)X2. I therefore end the 1st row with 60 st which is the correct number for the 2nd row. What I did however was K21 st i.s.o. 19st in the middle of the 1st row. Then in the 3rd row I had to knit 18 i.s.o. 17 in the middle, ending therefore with 60 st i.s.o. 59.
Where am I going wrong?
Kind regards
Karen Barnard

There was a typo in the first row. (Sorry about that)

It should read:

ROW 1: (RS) K16, K2T, (YO) 2X, SSK, K19, K2T, (YO) 2X, SSK, K16

Thanks for catching that for me.

New Baby Blanket
I am unclear as to how to do the following pattern stitches: what does it mean to SSK? I assume the (YO) 2X means to yarn over two times, correct?

Re: New Baby Blanket
SSK = Slip, Slip, Knit those two together (through the front of the loops)

Here is a demo of how to do it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGwcYW3GG3M

2x = do the action 2 times. So you are correct. You would YO twice.

Re: New Baby Blanket
I love this pattern...Thank you for it and for the video. I was slipping the stitches like a normal slip and then knitting the one after that lol. I was wondering why I was getting too many or too little stitches on the following rows!

There was a typing error. Where it said Knit 25, It really should have been K2T. It has now been corrected.

Stuck...on row 3 of motiff
Ok so if I do row two, I end up with 60 stitches. That's the math

P13, K1, P22, K1, P13, K5
5+ 13 + 1 + 22 + 1 + 13 + 5 = 60 stitches.

However, on row 3 you end up with there supposed to be 59 stitches, and I am doing it exactly has directed; however, the stitches don't match up. I end up lopsided - 19 on one side and 20 on the other.

ROW 3: K19, YO, SSK, K17, K2T, YO, K19

19 + 1 + 1 (SSK = 1) + 17 + 1 (K2T = 1) + 1 + 19
= 59

It just isn't working for me...do you have an idea of what I could be doing wrong?

i have tried all after noon and still not got past the first row of pattern, i have never had a pattern beat me before but this one has and i am so disappointed. Its the YO thats beating me i think its just not making sense, do you wind yarn round needle twice and then knit a stitch. i have seen how you have explained it but it doesnt seem to work. it says round needle twice and on return row pearl and twist. doesnt work for me.

Anyone please help me

Just in case.... Alternative instructions that will work.
I have no idea if you will see this because you keep commenting anonymously. But on the off chance that you do return and look here again....

This isn't exactly what I described in the pattern but it will work and get you past row 2

row 1 - knit as written except only do a single yo instead of the (yo)x2. PLEASE NOTE: this will leave you with 57 stitches instead of the 59 that the original pattern has.

row 2 - knit the 5 garter stitch border stitches, then purl up to where you have the yarn over. then Knit in the front and back of the yarn over. purl until you reach the second yo. Knit in the front and back of that yarn over. purl to the last 5 stitches. Knit 5 stitches. (The Knit in the Front and Back of the two YO will increase your stitch count by 2, bringing you back up to the 59 stitches you should have. This stitch count will be consistant for the rest of the motif.)

here is a video demonstrating what I am talking about

Hope you see this and hope it helps.
